Russell had a brief exposure to the art of glass blowing during his grade school days. The fascination with his experience has stayed with him ever since. In 1988, ten years after moving to Wallowa County, he had the opportunity to study glass blowing for two years at Eastern Oregon University.
His continuing interest was confirmed as he learned the process of creating vessels from a liquid the consistency of honey. The brilliance of colour in glass allows his imagination to run wild.
After ten years of blowing glass in his own studio, it has become obvious the learning process is ongoing and the colour combinations are endless. His time in the hot shop remains a truly fascinating experience.
